     Design and facilitate effective meetings

    In today’s world of truncated timelines, increased workloads and demands for workplace democracy, we need group decisions made quickly, positively and with diminished frustra­tion. We also need to ensure that meetings are effective, efficient and highly productive. This course is designed for the person who needs tools to enhance participation and productivity in various types of meetings.

    About the Course*
    Technology of Participation (ToP) Facilitation Methods training helps groups think, talk and work together. It provides group facilitators with structured methods that allow a group to deal with more data in less time while incorporating the contributions of all. ToP methods enable integrated thinking and they help minimize polarization and conflict. This training teaches the foundational values of: Inclusive Participation, Teamwork and Collaboration, Individual and Group Creativity, Action and Ownership, and Reflection and Learning. ToP methods use innovative approaches that have been extensively researched and field tested. These methods are supported by practical results that have proven sustainable over time, giving participants renewed confidence in their capability to support participative approaches and strategies in their organization.

    ToP Facilitation Methods – a three-part course

    1. The Focused Conversation Method
    2. The Consensus Workshop Method
    3. The Action Planning Method

    You will learn proven ways to activate group participation. Leave with powerful tools for planning events.

    ToP Strategic Planning - 2 day workshop*
    The ToP Strategic Planning Process builds on the learning from the ToP Facilitation Methods course (a prerequisite). It demonstrates how to weave the basic ToP methods into an integrated approach to strategic planning. The resulting plan is realistic, achievable, and easy to monitor.

    The five steps of the ToP Strategic Planning process are: Preparation and Design; Practical Vision; Underlying Contradictions; Strategic Directions; and Focused Implementation. Skilled trainers demonstrate each step of the ToP Strategic Planning process and clarify the rationale behind each step, providing examples from their own facilitation experience. Participants practice the methods during the course. 


    • Align organization members around common goals and strategies
    • Identify well-focused actions that lead to big breakthroughs
    • Enable a group to come to a common vision and own the resulting plan
